Inkjet or Laser?
Most personal and small business printers are inkjet printers. Their cartridges are ink containers and the ink is sprayed in very fine jets onto the paper.
Laser printers use powder for printing. This is transfered onto the paper with static-electrical charging and fixed onto the paper with heat and pressing. The powder cartridges are called toners.
Genuine, Compatible or Remanufactured?
Genuine - A genuine cartridge is a cartridge which has been made by the same manufacturer that made your printer. Genuine cartridges always come at a premium price but good results are guaranteed.
Compatible - A compatible cartridge is a brand new cartridge that has been made for your printer by a company other than the printer manufacturer. They are guaranteed to work as well as the original products, not damage your printer, and are considerably cheaper than the genuine item.
Remanufactured - These are factory recycled cartridges. All are cleaned, refilled (often with considerably more ink), and fully checked. They are cheaper than the genuine cartridges, often considerably when the amount of ink is taken into account. They are guaranteed to work as well as the genuine cartridge. They do not have as long a shelf life as the genuine cartridge and should not be stored for longer than 3 months.

I'm not sure I have received the right cartridge.
All the printers which a cartridge fits are not always listed on the box due to available space and new printers being developed after the packaging has been designed. Check on our website for the suitable cartridges for your printer. If you are still not sure contact customer services.
The printer doesn't recognise the cartridge.
Have you read the instructions, and removed all the packaging and tear off strips from the cartridge?
Please remove the cartridge, and then re-insert it. If the printer still does not accept the cartridge then close the cover on the printer, and turn it off. Then reboot your pc, and then turn the printer on, and install the same cartridge again.
If this does not resolve the problem please remove the cartridge and clean the contacts with a damp, non-abrasive cloth. Then dry with tissue paper before re-inserting the cartridge and retracing the steps above.
If this does not resolve the problem, then install a new cartridge ( if you have one), and contact customer services to follow our replacement service for the rogue faulty cartridge.
The printer recognises the cartridge but it won't print or prints poorly.
Have you read all the instructions and removed all the tear off strips, and pearced the correct venting holes?
Have you run 2 or 3 cleaning cycles to clean your printheads and push ink through the printhead?
All HP, Lexmark and Dell cartridges and remanufactured cartridges must be stored upright in their box whilst in storage before use. If the cartridge has not been stored in this upright position, then the print quality will be poor until the ink settles to the bottom of the cartridge where the print head is. Simply leave the cartridge installed in the printer for 2-6 hours, and quality will be restored. Make sure any spare cartridges are stored upright, so they work correctly when first installed.
An air pocket may be stopping the ink from leaving the cartridge. Simply remove the cartridge, take a folded sheet of kitchen towel, and rap around the cartridge, and shake the cartridge several times. Then blot the cartridges print head on the towel until a colour or black pattern is seen, now the ink is leaving the cartridge, the cartridge can be inserted into the printer
On Epson printers poor quality printing and no ink flow can be caused by ink drying in the printhead and partially or fully blocking ink flow, in one or multiple inks. This can be prevented by printing a test page weekly and running a cleaning cycle if problems are detected. If a blockage occurs this can normally be cleared by running multiple cleaning cycles, if this fails a limited range of cleaning cartridges are available ring 015397 38200 for details.
